Nebraska gymnast selected as Olympic Alternate

Emma Spense was selected as an alternate for Team Canada, the team announced on Friday.

A Nebraska gymnast has been selected as an alternate for the upcoming Paris Olympics. Emma Spense was selected as an alternate for Team Canada, the team announced on Friday.

Spence confirmed the news herself on her social media accounts.

My main goal for trials were to walk away from the meet knowing that I gave it all I had, I enjoyed the process, and I competed with my heart on my sleeve. I am so proud of my performances over the last two years and the things I have achieved. The reality is, you can give something everything you have and it still might not be enough. This is my second Olympic cycle, and once again although this position isn’t an easy one at all, I am proud to say I am a 2024 Olympic alternate.

Spence earned the non-traveling alternate slot after her performances at the Pan American Games and the Canadian Championships. The 2024 Olympics’ gymnastics events will take place from July 27 to August 5.
