The long wait until college football begins is almost over. Only eight days remain until the Nebraska Cornhuskers begin their 2024 season against the UTEP Miners next Saturday.
In the player spotlight with eight days remaining until Memorial Stadium is full once again is Huskers senior defensive back DeShon Singleton.
The Greensburg, Louisiana native is entering his third year with the program.
In his first year with the program in 2022, Singleton played in all 12 games, mostly on special teams, but did see time in parts of six games on defense. Last fall, Singleton started for the Huskers at safety for the first month of the season but suffered an injury against Michigan that would end his year.
This fall, he’ll have the opportunity to start again for the Huskers at strong safety and, this time, keep that starting job.
Prior to arriving in Lincoln, Singleton was a standout at Hutchinson Community College in Kansas, one of the top JUCO programs in the country.
