A Nebraska baseball alum helped throw a no-hitter for the Atlanta Braves Single High-A affiliate on Thursday night. Shay Schanaman was part of a combined no-hitter, as the Rome Emperors were able to accomplish the feat.
Schanaman pitched two innings and struck out two batters in the effort, obtaining the win. He improved his record to 7-6 on the season and currently sports a 4.42 ERA. He has appeared in 39 games this season for the Emperors, recording 61 strikeouts in 53 innings pitched.
Schanaman went undrafted in the 2023 MLB draft, but was signed by the Atlanta Braves in July 2023.
He was an accomplished pitcher for the Nebraska baseball program during his time in Lincoln. He ranked fifth in program history with 79 all-time appearances and 247 strikeouts. He had nine saves throughout his Nebraska career, including six in the 2023 season.
Schanaman was a key contributor to Nebraska baseball during his tenure in Lincoln, and on Wednesday night, he became a part of history.
