Nebraska athletic director Trev Alberts took questions from the press at Big Ten media days earlier in the week. Alberts spoke in detail about the ongoing construction of the Go Big Project.
The construction project is a $165 million, 315,000-square-foot facility. The Football Performance Center will hold a start of the art Athletic Medicine Area, Strength Complex, Equipment Room, Locker Room, Football Offices, Meeting Spaces, and room for future expansion.
“It’s going well. It’s also been a challenge. I had to remind myself: We have 315,000 square feet. It’s a massive facility. One of the things we are trying to figure out, and Coach Rhule is very passionate about it, and we don’t want to do anything that disrupts the football team.”
He also stated that the completion date of phase one is approaching.
“It’s soon. The rest of the stuff like the training table is maybe more at the end of the calendar year. It’s a herculean task. Everybody is all hands on deck. Our partners in the construction and project management and internal management team are working really hard to do it appropriately.”
Alberts also reiterated that Nebraska still has great facilities and is in no need to rush the project.
“Obviously, being the first year and everything, we don’t need anything to disrupt the team, and obviously, we have great facilities where we currently reside.”
