The Oklahoma Sooners have just one recruit currently committed to the defensive side of the ball for the 2022 recruiting cycle. Kobie McKinzie is a four-star inside linebacker from Lubbock Cooper. The Sooners very well could be closing in on yet another linebacker for the class. Recently a top 150 player in Devon Jackson released his top five schools for his recruitment. Jackson listed Oklahoma as the only Big 12 school in the running.
Jackson is the No. 2 rated player out of the state of Nebraska and No. 11 at his position according to 247Sports composite rankings. ESPN has him rated as high as the No. 5 linebacker in his class. They also have Jackson just outside the top 50 of their 2022 rankings, coming in at No. 51 overall and No. 1 in the state.
Defensive coordinator Alex Grinch could be gearing up to make a run at a player who could replace Nik Bonitto as the rush linebacker in his defense. The top-ranked returning pass rusher is a redshirt junior coming into the 2021 class and might opt for the NFL if he is as productive as he was in 2020. Jackson’s measurables are similar to Bonitto and you can never have too many rushers that can play outside linebacker.
