The LSU Tigers came just one point short of winning their first SEC Tournament since 1980 on Sunday, falling to Alabama 80-79 in the championship game.
Despite that disappointment, LSU can now look forward to the NCAA Tournament.
So, where did LSU land on Selection Sunday?
The Tigers are a No. 8 seed in the East Region and will play Atlantic 10 champion, St. Bonaventure, in the first round.
The Bonnies were the regular-season champions and conference tournament champions in the Atlantic 10.
The Tigers entering the NCAA Tournament as a No. 8 seed is a bit of a surprise. Some bracketologists had the Tigers as high as No. 5 last week, and that was before LSU’s run to the SEC Tournament championship game.
The most difficult part of LSU’s draw is that it would likely face No. 1 seed Michigan in the second round if both are victorious. The Tigers are playing their best basketball of the season and could put the top-seeded Wolverines on upset alert early in March Madness.
The NCAA Tournament will kick off on Thursday with the First Four.
The time and network for LSU’s first-round game will be announced early in the week.
