NCAA denies John Emery Jr’s appeal, remains ineligible

Emery’s latest appeal was denied again by the NCAA.

LSU running back John Emery Jr. has had his latest appeal to overturn his academic ineligibility denied by the NCAA, per Ross Dellenger. “Emery’s attorney plans to pursue other options, source says. For now, he remains ineligible this season,” Dellenger tweeted on Wednesday.

It was officially announced two weeks into the season that Emery would miss the rest of the year because of his academic status. John Emery Jr. finished second on LSU in total rushing yards in 2020 (378 rushing yards, three touchdowns) behind Tyrion Davis-Price. He was expected to have significant playing time along with Davis-Price this season.

It appears that the team will have to rely on Ty Davis-Price, Corey Kiner, Armoni Goodwin, Josh Williams, and hopefully Tre Bradford. No word on if he will be ruled eligible at this point in time.

This was a major blow for the LSU running game that has struggled this season through four games. They are dead last in the SEC in yards per attempt and rank 124th out of 130 FBS teams.
