NCAA bracketology: where Auburn is predicted to land come March

As the postseason nears for Auburn basketball, take a look at where the Tigers are predicted to land come the NCAA Tournament.

If you are a college basketball fan, the month of March can only mean one thing: madness. That time is finally here and postseason is set to get underway for every team across the country with the hopes of punching a ticket to the “Big Dance.”

For the Auburn Tigers, they have done well enough in the regular season that they have essentially earned a spot in the NCAA Tournament already. Now the question is: where will they land?

Bracketology is a tool that’s goal is to accurately predict how the tournament’s selection committee will seed the field of 68 based on the team’s results, amongst other things.

In the latest bracket projections from On3, Auburn is firmly holding onto a spot as a 4-seed, currently projected to be in the East Region of the field. On3 predicts that the Tigers will face a familiar foe in round one, as the bracket pits them up against Appalachian State, who beat Auburn earlier this season. The Tigers would travel to Pittsburgh to play this game, where a win would set them up with either No. 5 seed BYU or No. 12 seed Richmond.

Should Auburn make a run, they would likely run into a daunting task in facing the defending national champions in the UConn Huskies in the second weekend. That potential matchup would be played in Boston.

The Tigers are attempting to make it out of the first weekend for the first time since the Final Four run in 2019. They were eliminated in 2022 by Miami and in 2023 by Houston, both coming in the round of 32.

Auburn is set to take on Mississippi State on Saturday, still battling for a double-bye in the SEC Tournament and a hopeful good seed in the NCAA Tournament.
