Kurt Roper is once again an offensive coordinator in the Triangle.
The NC State Wolfpack announced they promoted Roper, a former Duke coordinator, to that same position after five years on the program’s staff.
The change came after the firing of former coordinator Robert Anae, who occupied the office for the last two seasons. The Wolfpack finished 63rd in the FBS in scoring offense (28.5 points per game) and 76th in total offense (377.8 yards) despite high preseason expectations.
Roper spent six seasons on the sidelines in Durham from 2008-13 underneath David Cutcliffe, a run that concluded with the program’s first 10-win season. Duke averaged 32.8 points per game that year, it’s second straight season above 31.0, and picked up 426.1 yards per contest despite utilizing two different quarterbacks.
Roper oversaw the final two seasons of Thaddeus Lewis’s Duke career, which included a 3,330-yard senior campaign, and helped Sean Renfree pass the 3,000-yard barrier twice in three years. Three of the Blue Devils’ top four single-season passing yard totals came during his tenure.
The coach spent a single season with the Florida Gators in 2014, and he served as the Colorado Buffaloes interim head coach for one game at the end of the 2018 season before ending up in Raleigh.
