After dropping three of their last four games, things looked to be trending in the right direction for the Golden State Warriors on Wednesday against the Denver Nuggets.
The Warriors carried a commanding lead throughout the game behind a 25 point performance from Steph Curry on 10-of-19 shooting from the field with six assists on three boards.
However, when it came to landing the final blow against the Nuggets, the Warriors had no answer for Nikola Jokic. The defending Most Valuable Player pushed the Nuggets to a fierce comeback with a near triple-double performance with 35 points, 17 rebounds and eight assists.
With the clock ticking down, the Nuggets roared back into the contest to steal the lead with 14 seconds remaining in the game. Yet, Curry came to the rescue, drilling an and-one jumper and converting the 3-point play at the line to give the Warriors a two-point advantage with under six seconds left on the clock.
Needing one defensive stop to end the game, the Warriors’ defense collapsed on Jokic, leaving shooters open around the 3-point arc. Jokic found a wide-open Monte Morris for a game-winning 3-pointer at the buzzer for Denver, 117-116.
Morris finished the game with 13 points on 4-of-6 shooting from the field, including one game-winning buzzer-beater to send the Warriors into the All-Star break with a back-breaking loss at home.
After the Warriors slide continued with their fourth loss in five games, the NBA Twitter community exploded with different reactions. Here’s a look at what fans and analysts were saying on Wednesday night.
