The Philadelphia 76ers picked up their first win of the preseason, 127-119, over the Brooklyn Nets on Monday thanks to 21 points from Kelly Oubre Jr. That was a positive end to a night that could have been a disaster after the team lost Tyrese Maxey to back spasms.
Coach Nick Nurse said afterward the decision to not bring Maxey back was precautionary and there is no major concern about Maxey’s health. That is the good news. The Sixers want everybody healthy heading into the season on Oct. 26.
Oubre Jr. continues to look like a good addition to the bench unit. He had a nice night offensively while also being a pest on defense. Tobias Harris added 18 points and nine rebounds. Paul Reed had 18 points, and De’Anthony Melton contributed 15 points, 10 rebounds and eight assists.
