NBA trade freeze set to end on Monday; salary cap figures reported

The NBA trade moratorium is scheduled to end Monday at 11 a.m. Central time, at which point the Oklahoma City Thunder could start dealing.

It has been nine months since the last NBA trade was made.

On Monday, that will be allowed to change.

The trade freeze is set to expire at 11 a.m. Central Time on Monday, Marc Stein and Adrian Wojnarowski reported. At that point, the Oklahoma City Thunder’s future will start to become apparent.

There is already reportedly an agreed-upon trade between the Thunder and the Los Angeles Lakers for guard Dennis Schroder. The deal, which is expected to bring back the No. 28 pick and Danny Green, can be agreed upon Monday. It can’t be finalized until after the draft due to the Stepian Rule, as the Lakers traded the 2019 pick.

Beyond that, it may not be long until a Chris Paul trade is announced. There have been reports that the Thunder have discussed with the Philadelphia 76ers and Phoenix Suns.

And keep an eye out on all the other trade deadline moves that may be arising. Draft day is Wednesday and free agency starts Friday.

Wojnarowski also reported the salary cap and luxury tax figures for this season and projections for following years.

In 2020-21, both numbers will stay the same as last year. The salary cap with be $109.1 million and the tax line at $132.6 million.

Figures are projected to increase in following years, though the unpredictability of the coronavirus makes that uncertain.

The Thunder enter the offseason with a payroll of $107 million.
