NBA to suspend season after Jazz player tests positive for COVID-19

The NBA halted the regular season following Wednesday night’s game after a player tested positive for the coronavirus.

The NBA announced that they will suspend the season until further notice following Wednesday night’s slate of games after a player on the Utah Jazz tested positive for the coronavirus.

The test result was reported shortly prior to tipoff between the Jazz and Oklahoma City Thunder at Chesapeake Energy Arena. The game was subsequently canceled but the player was not inside of the arena, according to the NBA.

While the NBA did not name the player that tested positive for the coronavirus, Jeff Zillgitt of USA TODAY reported that the player was center Rudy Gobert. The Jazz officially ruled out Gobert from playing on Wednesday due to an illness.

After the game between the Jazz and Thunder was canceled, players were sent back to the locker room to be quarantined and were still being held for testing of the coronavirus, officially named COVID-19, according to Tony Jones of The Athletic.

The NBA will use this hiatus to determine the next steps for moving forward in regard to the coronavirus pandemic.
