The 2020 NBA Draft Lottery and Combine are the two latest sporting events to feel the effects of the novel coronavirus outbreak. Both were originally scheduled to take place in May, but have been postponed.
The league made the announcement on Friday, adding:
More information on each event will be shared at a later date as the NBA continues to closely monitor the coronavirus pandemic and consult with infectious disease specialists, public health experts and government officials.
Both events were set to take place in Chicago.
The 2020 NBA Draft is still slated to take place at Barclays Center on June 25. However, Kevin O’Connor of The Ringer is reporting, “League sources expect the NBA to push the draft from June 25 to August or September.”
The Brooklyn Nets have two selections in this year’s draft. Based on where the standings were when the NBA went on hiatus, Minnesota Timberwolves has Brooklyn’s top-14 protected pick (acquired via the Atlanta Hawks), but the Nets have the Philadelphia 76ers’ first-round pick (No. 20). Brooklyn also has a second-round pick (No. 55).
