NBA players react to Brandon Ingram’s maximum contract with Pelicans

The New Orleans Pelicans and Brandon Ingram agreed to a five-year, $158 million deal on Tuesday, leading to multiple players showing support for him.

Brandon Ingram reportedly secured a huge payday on Tuesday by agreeing to a five-year, $158 million maximum contract with the New Orleans Pelicans. The deal was anticipated for much of the off-season but was delayed as the franchise navigated a four-team trade that sent out Jrue Holiday and brought in Steven Adams on his own extension.

Ingram’s extension will see him make $27.2 million in the 2020-21 season escalating to a $36 million salary in the 2024-25 season. His payday comes after a breakout season in New Orleans that included both a Most Improved Player award and an All-Star game nod.

Along the journey of his four years in the league, Ingram has gained the respect of many of his teammates, past and present, and many of them turned out to congratulate him on social media, namely in Lonzo Ball, Josh Hart and Jordan Clarkson.

Ball has been one of the most ardent supporters of Ingram during their time together as teammates and particularly in the last year. Whether it was tweeting his support after Ingram’s 49-point explosion to expressing his excitement when Ingram was named an All-Star to even being on the Zoom call to present Ingram with the Most Improved Player award, Ball has been right behind Ingram every step of the way.
