NBA fines Victor Wembanyama $25,000 for actions at end of Spurs-Knicks

San Antonio Spurs star Victor Wembanyama was fined $25,000 for throwing the ball into the stands after beating the New York Knicks.

According to the official NBA Communications Twitter account, the league has fined San Antonio Spurs star Victor Wembanyama $25,000 for throwing the ball into the crowd at the end of the team’s win over the New York Knicks on Friday night. It’s the first time the Spurs rookie has been fined in his career.

The Spurs battled it out with the Knicks on Friday night, earning an overtime victory despite Jalen Brunson dropping an impressive 61 points. Wembanyama matched Brunson’s greatness with a 40-point, 20-rebound game of his own. He was so excited at the end of the contest that he tossed the game ball into the crowd at the Frost Bank Center.

Unfortunately, that action is not allowed, so the NBA dropped the (very small) hammer on the rookie.

Wembanyama’s excitement for the win took over at the moment, and though he’ll be paying the price for it, the hyped of victory will almost certainly outweigh the frustration of the fine.
