The Larry O’Brien Trophy certainly took the long way around to get to the 2023 NBA Finals.
Ahead of Thursday’s Game 1 between the Miami Heat and Denver Nuggets, the Larry O’Brien Trophy completed its “epic journey” with an unusual final method of transportation. Previously, the Larry O’Brien Trophy was making its way around the world in preparation for the NBA Finals. The Larry O’Brien Trophy even got to pal around with the Stanley Cup in a When Harry Met Sally moment late last month!
And now, the Larry O’Brien Trophy’s journey is finally over after skydiving out of a plane into Denver. Yes, really, the Larry O’Brien Trophy was tossed out of a plane, parachute and all!
It’s a bird. It’s a plane. It’s The Larry O’Brien Trophy skydiving to Heat/Nuggets for Game 1 tonight at 8:30pm/et on ABC! pic.twitter.com/SVF8sZNCLH

Of course, it wasn’t alone on its journey, but still. What possessed the NBA to do this with its most iconic piece of hardware is beyond me, but that’s content for you.
NBA fans, however, were quite perplexed as to why the Larry O’Brien Trophy went skydiving out of a plane.
