Former Memphis Tigers center James Wiseman is reportedly emerging as the top choice for the No. 1 pick in the 2020 NBA Draft, according to Jeff Goodman of Stadium.

In an anonymous poll of 35 NBA executives conducted by Goodman, Wiseman received 20 votes to be chosen with the top pick. After Wiseman, Anthony Edwards received 10 votes while four went to LaMelo Ball and one to Obi Toppin.

The 7-foot-1 Wiseman possesses elite athleticism at his size and his 7-foot-6 wingspan likely has teams intrigued. Wiseman has been touted as a player can impact games on the defensive end of the floor but he will need to develop offensively to fit the modern NBA game.

“When I get into the league, I’m trying to make a name for myself,” Wiseman told Goodman. “I really don’t care about the numbers in terms of [where I get drafted] — I can go 1, 2 or 3. I’m just ready to get in there and prove myself, become a better player and make a name for myself in the league.”

As for when the draft may happen, that is another question.

The NBA Draft is still scheduled for June 25 but that is expected to be pushed back after the Draft Lottery and Draft Combine was postponed indefinitely.
