While teammate Jabari Smith has been the talk of the draft, some would argue that University of Auburn forward Walker Kessler has flown under the radar.
The 7’1″ prospect improved greatly from his freshman to sophomore year and played a significant role in Auburn’s fantastic regular season. So much so, that Kessler is projected as a first-round pick by draft experts after being seen as a late second-rounder at this time a year ago.
Tipico Sportsbook gets exact with Kessler’s draft position. The oddsmakers there have his line at 24.5, with even -110 odds of him either being picked before or after No. 24.
If you ask me, anything before 24 feels rich. While Kessler was good during his sophomore year and has lots of potential as a 7-footer with versatility, it’s hard to imagine he’s jumped that high up in the draft. But then again, the Milwaukee Bucks hold the 24th pick and don’t have much size at the center position aside from Brook Lopez, who spent most of the most recent regular season on the injury report.
I could talk myself into the idea, but I’ll stick with my gut instead. Kessler goes after pick No. 24.
The Pick: Walker Kessler Over 24.5 (-110)
