NBA brass reportedly hopeful for return of season after call

ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski reports that the league’s top decision-makers are encouraged about a return to play this year.

According to most sides when it comes to the question of whether the NBA will return this season and eventually crown a champion, most signs are pointing to a season conclusion and some kind of competition to determine a winner for the 2019-20 season. Earlier on Tuesday, reports surfaced that the NBA’s star players, including LeBron James, want to resume the season. Then later on Tuesday night, reports that appear to be connected to the attitude of stars players suggested that owners and executives across the league have increasing optimism after Tuesday’s talks that the season can continue.

Among the biggest obstacles, according to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, is getting players to be okay with a positive test within the league without calling for an NBA-wide cancelation.

Discussions centered on health and safety concerns in a return, including the goal of getting team officials and players comfortable with the idea that a positive test for the coronavirus upon a return would not shutter play.

As far as the league’s stars are concerned, it looks like they are okay when it comes to dealing with positive tests, at least in the abstract. But the league appears to be closing in on a situation where they will have to deal with it for real, in a way that few in the league have had to see first hand.
