We will have basketball much sooner than many of us imagined and the rapid churn in rosters that we know as free-agency will be even more intense this coming offseason. That churn will happen at an even faster rate than we’ve ever seen, as teams look to fill out their rosters before the Dec. 1 training camp start date that many teams are hoping to hit. This current hiatus has also put into focus the reasons why the league pushes to have free agency happen after the draft, whereas the NFL has free agency happen before the draft. Pistons GM Troy Weaver said he prefers to have free agency before the draft.
#Pistons GM Troy Weaver on proposed NBA calendar: "I prefer free agency before the draft…whatever is in front of us, we have to deal with it."

The NBA has done things a certain way for a long time and as far as the NFL is concerned, draft picks have a more immediate impact on that sport than those who are drafted in the NBA draft are. Still, whenever the league decides, it should be a lot of fun.
