NBA 2K21 will be more expensive on PS5, Xbox Series X

All that next-gen sweat has a price.

2K revealed on Thursday that its third cover star for upcoming release NBA 2K21 is late Lakers legend Kobe Bryant, and also provided some interesting pricing details about its various editions of the game.

There are three distinct versions of NBA 2K21 on the way. Damian Lillard is the cover star for the current-gen version of 2K21, which will release on PS4, Xbox One, Switch and PC on September 4th for the typical price of $59.99.

Pelicans star Zion Williamson is the next-gen cover star for the PS5 and Xbox Series X version, which releases “Holiday 2020” for $69.99.

Finally, a “Mamba Forever Edition” featuring Kobe Bryant on the cover will retail for $99.99, which includes a copy of 2K21 for both console generations.

2K21’s price bump is the first confirmed case of a next-gen game rising above the $60 mark for a standard edition, and could potentially be a sign of things to come from other publishers. Unfortunately, it seems unlikely that the higher base price will reduce the amount of in-game microtransactions that have overwhelmed the NBA 2K series in recent years.
