Nate Burleson: Jadeveon Clowney and Titans ‘would work perfectly’

Burleson believes the Titans might have made it to the Super Bowl if Clowney was on the team in 2019.

Making it to the AFC Championship Game seemed like a laughable notion toward the beginning of 2019, before the Tennessee Titans named Ryan Tannehill the starting quarterback and made a complete turnaround from their 2-4 start to the season.

But, could one small tweak have allowed the Titans to make it to Super Bowl LIV, instead of falling one game short after their 35-24 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs?

NFL analyst Nate Burleson seems to believe the Titans could have taken it all with the addition of Jadeveon Clowney, who the team has shown interest in this offseason (H/T Jaylon Thompson of 247Sports).

“If the Titans had Jadeveon Clowney last year, they might make it to the Super Bowl,” Burleson said on Good Morning Football. “I know you’re saying ‘Nate, that’s quite dramatic.’ I was there. I was there at the AFC Championship game, that cold, brisk night where KC is fighting with the Titans. It was back and forth. And right before halftime, Mahomes went crazy.”

Clowney’s versatility makes him an asset to any team, including the Titans, and Burleson believes the two would “work perfectly” together.

“Now imagine if you have a guy like Jadeveon Clowney that is big, fast, strong that you can drop into coverage or you can send him on the attack,” he said. “I feel like a guy like Jadeveon Clowney in a Titans uniform would work perfectly. It might be what they need to get over that hump. I say, yes. I believe it.”

If there’s one thing we’ve learned over the time period of Clowney’s free agency, it’s that he’s in no rush to find a landing spot.

He’s reportedly declined offers from both the Cleveland Browns and the Seattle Seahawks, so it will be interesting to see if he ultimately finds a place in Nashville.
