NASCAR Xfinity Series director to step down after 2024 season

NASCAR Xfinity Series director Wayne Auton will step down from his position at the conclusion of the 2024 season.

NASCAR has undergone several big changes over the last few seasons and another will take place in 2025. On Tuesday afternoon, NASCAR announced that Xfinity Series director Wayne Auton will not return to the role after the 2024 season. Auton will still remain in NASCAR, but in a different position. Eric Peterson, his assistant series director, will take over in 2025.

Auton served as the director for the NASCAR Truck Series in 1995 and held that position until the conclusion of the 2012 season. Since 2013, Auton has held the position as Xfinity Series director and made an appearance as the Truck Series director near the end of the 2023 season. The racing director’s new role has yet to be announced.

It will be interesting to see how the Peterson does in his new role come next season; however, this year will be about honoring Auton and everything he has done for the sport during his career. Auton may not be a name that is mentioned much among race fans, but he helps produce some of the best racing in the world with the Xfinity Series each weekend.
