NASCAR is set to arrive at Sonoma Raceway for the 16th weekend of the 2024 Cup Series season. It represents the only date at the venue, as NASCAR only goes to Sonoma, California, once per season. Last year, Martin Truex Jr. beat Kyle Busch and Joey Logano for his fourth Sonoma victory. Truex led 51 laps and earned five playoff points.
First, the Cup Series needs to qualify for the event at Sonoma, and the qualifying format is simple. The session will be split into Groups A and B. Each group will have a certain amount of time to complete a run, and the top 5 fastest drivers from each group will advance to the final round. Then, a round of runs will determine the top 10 starters. The metric system determines the qualifying order and groups.
