The 2024 NASCAR season begins this week as the sport enters Daytona International Speedway for its biggest event. The sports world is fresh off Super Bowl LVIII, where the Kansas City Chiefs beat the San Fransisco 49ers, and NASCAR hopes to continue the trend of upward TV ratings in American sports.
Speaking of the Chiefs, NASCAR president Steve Phelps was asked on SiriusXM NASCAR Radio about how he felt regarding the NFL’s bump in viewership due to Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce’s relationship. Phelps acknowledged the achievement and joked around with the idea of NASCAR seeing a similar situation.
“Chase Elliott, y’know, he’s a good-looking guy. Taylor Swift, Travis Kelce? Come on,” Phelps joked. “We want to make sure that this sport is open to everyone, right? Listen, she’s got a ton of fans.”

“All those Swifites out there, I’m joking, obviously. Travis is a great guy. No one is as big as she is, but how about someone like right below her? We got a lot of good looking guys here. Let’s go!”
Obviously, Phelps was just joking around, but it is a crazy scenario for the NFL as Swift took over the media coverage and brought in new fans. NASCAR hopes to bring in new fans too, and it started with its new Netflix sports series, “NASCAR: Full Speed.” Swift may not be opening the door for the sport, but it is on the way to more new fans either way.
