NASCAR planning to run 32 charters in Cup Series for 2025 season

NASCAR is planning to run 32 charters instead of the original 36 charters in the Cup Series during the 2025 season.

NASCAR is amid drama with 23XI Racing and Front Row Motorsports after the two organizations filed an antitrust lawsuit against the sport due to the charter agreement. The two sides have gone back and forth with no settlement at this point. However, one of NASCAR’s plans for the 2025 season has been revealed.

According to NASCAR, in response to 23XI Racing and Front Row Motorsports’ hopes for expedited discovery, the sport plans for the 2025 Cup Series season to feature only 32 charters instead of the original 36 charters. This means NASCAR is planning for 23XI Racing and Front Row Motorsports to not have their charters in 2025.

If this were to occur, NASCAR would have 32 guaranteed entries with eight open spots for a 40-car field. 23XI Racing and Front Row Motorsports wouldn’t get the benefits of chartered teams and must make the field on speed. A hearing scheduled for November 4 would determine if the two NASCAR teams can race with charters in 2025.
