NASCAR is getting ready for the Coca-Cola 600 this weekend, and it will be a fun event. Jimmie Johnson returns for his second Coca-Cola 600 with Legacy Motor Club, while Kyle Larson flies in from the Indianapolis 500 as part of his attempt at “The Double.” However, NASCAR has set a record ahead of the 2024 Coca-Cola 600.
After MBM Motorsports entered the NASCAR Cup Series race at Charlotte Motor Speedway, there will be a full field of 40 drivers on Sunday night. This is the first time in the NextGen car era that a race outside of the Daytoan 500 has reached 40 entries. The last time a non-Daytona 500 event reached 40 entries was the playoff race at Kansas Speedway in October 2021.
With MBM Motorsports entering the Coca-Cola 600 (per the qualifying order), this is the first NASCAR Cup Series race with a 40-car field (excluding the Daytona 500) since Kansas Speedway in October 2021.
It's the first full field for a non-Daytona 500 event in the NextGen era.

Johnson, J.J. Yeley, Ty Dillon, and MBM Motorsports’ unknown driver will represent the four open competitors in the show. It didn’t used to be rare to see 40-driver fields, but the NextGen car has limited the extra entries for the event. It is great that NASCAR is trending back in the right direction as more teams enter cars in 2024.
