[autotag]Kyle Larson[/autotag] and Hendrick Motorsports chose the 2024 Indianapolis 500 over starting the Coca-Cola 600, making him ineligible for the NASCAR playoffs. A decision on Larson’s waiver request has taken longer than normal, as these are unique circumstances. However, the driver of the No. 5 car’s fate was revealed on Tuesday, June 4.

NASCAR announced that Larson has been granted a waiver for the 2024 Cup Series playoffs. The Hendrick Motorsports driver will be able to compete for a championship. Several drivers have backed Larson throughout the process as making him ineligible would have been a horrible look. NASCAR has previously granted waivers for drivers who have intentionally hooked another competitor into the wall headfirst.

If the racing series hadn’t given Larson a waiver, it would’ve been a horrible look that produced unwanted consequences. NASCAR has been on the rise in 2024 and carries a lot of momentum into the NBC Sports portion of the season. NASCAR could’ve made the wrong decision by making Larson ineligible, but they confirmed the right choice on Tuesday.
