NASCAR could rotate the oval and road course at Indianapolis in the future

NASCAR could rotate the oval and road course layouts at Indianapolis Motor Speedway in the future. Should NASCAR stay on the oval layout?

While it hasn’t been made official yet, Indianapolis Motor Speedway president Doug Boles confirmed that NASCAR will return to the oval layout at Indianapolis Motor Speedway during the 2025 season. It is a great decision, as NASCAR belongs on the oval in Indianapolis. However, could NASCAR return to the road course in the future?

According to Boles on SiriusXM NASCAR Radio, there is potential for a rotation between the road course and oval in the future. The NASCAR Cup Series competed on the road course layout from 2021 to 2023 but reverted back to the oval layout for 2024. NASCAR benefited from the change, as attendance for the Brickyard 400 increased.

If NASCAR is going to race on the road course, it should be a second date at Indianapolis rather than losing the oval layout. The Brickyard 400 is a Crown Jewel event, and removing it for the road course makes no sense. NASCAR benefits from having more Crown Jewel events, and hopefully, that will continue in the foreseeable future.
