The NFL rejected Myles Garrett’s appeal of his indefinite suspension. Michael Signora of the NFL’s league office revealed Garrett will remain suspended for at least the remainder of the 2019 NFL season, including the postseason.
A statement from Signora notes that appeals officers James Thrash and Derrick Brooks, both former NFL players, upheld the unprecedented suspension levied upon Garrett after the Browns defensive end hit Steelers QB Mason Rudolph over the head with his own helmet at the end of Thursday night’s Browns win in Cleveland.
Garrett’s hearing on Wednesday morning in New York lasted less than two hours. As a result of the decision, Garrett remains barred from the Browns and NFL activity until he is reinstated by NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell, and that will not be possible until at least the end of the postseason play.
The league did reduce the suspension for Steelers OL Maurkice Pouncey from three games to two upon his appeal.
