MVP says Omos WrestleMania ring gear may not get to L.A. in time

Weather may prevent the Nigerian Giant from wearing what he planned against Brock Lesnar.

EL SEGUNDO, Calif. — Making the ring gear for Omos has to take a little bit longer than it does for most WWE wrestlers. That just comes with the territory when one has to outfit a man who stands 7-foot-3 and weighs more than 400 pounds.

But while the Nigerian Giant had something special planned to wear in his much anticipated battle with Brock Lesnar during night 2 of WrestleMania 39, it was another logistical snafu that might prevent it from being unveiled until the next night.

Omos made a surprise appearance with manager MVP at a press event hosted by Mattel on April 1 to reveal more about how WWE action figures are made. While answering questions about the process of choosing ring gear, MVP revealed that what his client was going to wear Sunday might have to wait until Monday.

“That’s also a sore point right now,” MVP said, in reference to Omos’ displeasure that he doesn’t have a new action figure coming out soon enough for his liking, something he expressed repeatedly (though in jest) during the event. “Due to weather, his new gear is held up, so we don’t know if somebody’s going to come through in the last minute and be able to create something new, or if his WrestleMania gear gets worn at Raw. We’ll see how that works out.”

On the plus side, Omos didn’t have to wrestle on the first night of WrestleMania 39, giving him one extra day to see if his gear arrives. He just won’t have much margin of error if it shows up in Los Angeles today — early reports suggest Omos vs. Lesnar is slated to open the night 2 card.

The silver lining is that it sounds like Omos will have something shiny and new to show off in L.A., even it’s not until the Raw After WrestleMania. Maybe then Mattel will get busy on that new figure so he at least has that.
