Murray State to retire Ja Morant’s No. 12 jersey number

After leading the Racers to back-to-back appearances in the NCAA Tournament, Ja Morant will have his jersey retired by the university.

Former Murray State point guard Ja Morant will see his No. 12 jersey raised into the rafters on campus Saturday night during a retirement ceremony to honor the second overall pick in the 2019 NBA Draft.

The university will officially retire his jersey at halftime on Saturday as the program hosts SIUE at the CFSB Center in Murray, Kentucky. Morant is expected to attend the ceremony with his family.

During his two seasons at Murray State, Morant helped lead the Racers to back-to-back appearances in the NCAA Tournament as winners of the Ohio Valley Conference.

Last season, Morant became the first player to average 20 points and 10 assists since the NCAA made assists an official stat in the 1983-84 season when he posted 24.5 points and 10 assists per game.

Morant will be the 11th player in program history to have his jersey retired.

Morant joins the likes of Isaiah Canaan, Popeye Jones and Marcus Brown to have their jersey numbers retired by Murray State. In just 65 career games, Morant holds the Murray State record for most points (808) in a season and the most career assists (532).
