Michigan State basketball will be without one of its top players in Wednesday night’s Maui Invitational matchup against North Carolina.

The Spartans have ruled freshman guard Jase Richardson out for the third-place game against the Tar Heels. Richardson “developed symptoms from an elbow to the head” that sound similar to a concussion, per the statement from the team. However, it was not officially stated that Richardson has a concussion.

Richardson is averaging 10.4 points per game in his young career with the Spartans. He had a career-high 18 points in the Spartans’ loss against Memphis on Tuesday.

Tipoff between the Spartans and Tar Heels is scheduled for 9:30 p.m. ET on Wednesday. The game will be televised on ESPN2.
