Now that it’s a couple days removed from Penn State’s eye-opening struggles against Bowling Green on Saturday, it’s good to take a step back and understand the Nittany Lions were able to win this game despite playing about as poorly as possible.
It should also be pointed out that other top teams around the country also played poorly in Week 2, highlighted by Notre Dame’s shocking upset at home against Northern Illinois.
There are still things Penn State has to work on so this doesn’t happen again, but remaining undefeated is the most important thing.
A major reason for that was the dominance by star tight end [autotag]Tyler Warren[/autotag], and that’s why he’s been named the Most Valuable Player of the Week 2 contest.
His record-setting performance certainly went a long way in deciding this superlative as he caught eight passes for 146 yards, which was the most in a single game by a Penn State tight end in program history.
The gaudy numbers didn’t just look good on paper, though. The Nittany Lions needed every single bit of yardage to escape Saturday by avoiding a massive upset.
But it’s not just what Warren is capable of doing as a receiver. He also plays a huge part in the running game by being a tremendous blocker that has helped this Nittany Lions rushing attack return to form with [autotag]Nick Singleton[/autotag] already at 233 yards through two games and [autotag]Kaytron Allen[/autotag] getting over 100 on Saturday.
[autotag]James Franklin[/autotag] has called Warren the most complete tight end in the nation, and with what he showed against Bowling Green, he very well could be right.
The star tight end will continue to be a name discussed throughout the season as he could rewrite the history books for the tight end position at Penn State when it’s all said and done.
