The Cincinnati Bengals met with potential No. 1 pick Joe Burrow on Wednesday at the NFL scouting combine.
And the initial reviews right after the two parties met for the allotted time were nothing short of encouraging.
Said meet featured not only head coach Zac Taylor, director of player personnel Duke Tobin and offensive coordinator Brian Callahan, but team president Mike Brown himself. Director of college scouting Mike Potts and quarterbacks coach Dan Pitcher were also involved.
While brief, the general get-to-know-you session also included some film breakdown, as is the norm for a meet with a prospect.
And the reviews on that front continue to squeak their way public.
One comment, via Fox 19’s Jeremy Rauch:
“He was impressive.”
A text just now from a #Bengals staff member inside the room with Joe Burrow today:
“Really good communicator. Had a full grasp of all the details of their offense, which was expected but good to hear.” @fox19

And another, per Tyler Dragon of the Cincinnati Enquirer:
A #Bengals team source told me Wednesday’s meeting with Joe Burrow went well. The source told me Burrow is a “smart guy” and “will be ready” for the NFL.

The how and why of these reports getting out to the public is interesting to consider. But given Burrow’s acumen in all facets, it isn’t a shock to hear it suggested he performed well in one of his combine interviews.
Burrow has remained adamant he’s already focused on being the best rookie he can be now that his historic season afforded him some extra time to merely prep for being a pro.
Burrow isn’t going to work out at the combine for that very reason — but as long as he’s acing meets like this with the Bengals, it won’t matter.
