The Montreal Alouettes (2-1) and the BC Lions (3-1) meet Sunday in a Week 5 matchup at BC Place in Vancouver. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. ET (CBS Sports Network/TSN). Below, we analyze BetMGM Sportsbook’s lines around the Alouettes vs. Lions odds and make our expert CFL picks and predictions.
The Alouettes opened the season with a pair of victories and covers, but it suffered a 17-3 loss at home against the Winnipeg Blue Bombers last time out. Montreal also failed to cover as 6-point underdogs.
While Montreal lost in Week 4, it held Winnipeg’s powerful offense to just 17 points, and the Alouettes defense continues to surprise. Montreal has allowed just 13.7 points per game (PPG) through 3 outings.
The Lions opened the season a perfect 3-0 straight up (SU) and against the spread (ATS). However, BC suffered a 45-24 setback at Toronto last weekend as 3-point favorites. The Over (47.5) easily cashed, too, halting a 3-0 Under run. In fact, BC had allowed just 21 total points in the first 3 games before the Argos rolled up the 45 points against them.

Alouettes at Lions picks and predictions
Prediction
Lions 23, Alouettes 18
Moneyline
The Lions (-300) will cost 3 times the potential return, and that’s way too expensive for a standalone wager, or even as part of a multi-team parlay. There is just no value to betting such heavy moneyline wagers.
PASS.
Against the spread
MONTREAL +7.5 (-110) has struggled to rack up points, but its defense has been able to hold them in every game. It should be no different in Sunday’s cross-country trip to meet the Lions -7.5 (-110).
The Lions have been pretty consistent on offense, scoring 22 or more points in all 4 games to date. The defense struggled last week against Toronto, but it was also playing very well through the first 3 weekends. Still, Montreal should do enough to keep this within 1 score.
Over/Under
UNDER 44.5 (-110) is the lean, as both of these clubs are playing tremendous defense in the early going.
The Lions have allowed 15 or fewer points in 3 of its 4 games, posting the Under in the first 3 games before the Over result in Week 4.
For the Alouettes, the defense showed off against Winnipeg, allowing the high-octane Blue Bombers to post just 17 points. The defense has allowed a total of just 41 points through 3 games, cashing the Under twice.
