Trades rocked the 2021 NFL draft order above the Detroit Lions’ first selection at No. 7 overall on Friday. Two separate deals pushed up the San Francisco 49ers to No. 3 and moved the Miami Dolphins into the No. 6 slot.
We now are starting to see the impact of the moves on the Lions in mock draft projections. Draft Wire’s first mock draft since the trades is a good example of where conventional draft wisdom sits now that the dust is settling.
Draft Wire editor Luke Easterling pegs LSU wide receiver Ja’Marr Chase to the Lions with the No. 7 pick. With quarterbacks now going No. 1 through No. 4, followed by Penei Sewell at five and Kyle Pitts at six, it gives the Lions their pick of the top wide receivers in the class.
Chase opted out of the 2020 season but his incredible 2019 performance makes him a very appealing idea for the new-look Lions.
