It was something of a surprise when the Las Vegas Raiders opted to waive former Michigan football defensive tackle Maurice Hurst Jr., as he was something of a steal having fallen from being a surefire first-round pick in 2018 all the way into the fifth round due to a heart issue.

Hurst had been productive, but also battled some injuries along the way, so he hadn’t quite been the standout in the NFL as anticipated by outlets like Pro Football Focus. However, he was still player as a free agent that fans of certain teams were salivating over, which made him highly coveted.

And now he’s returning to the Bay Area. Hurst tweeted on Thursday indicating that he’s signing with the San Francisco 49ers.

For the Raiders, Hurst played in 40 games, starting in 17 of them. He compiled 76 tackles, including 8 for loss, and 8 sacks in his three years in the NFL.
