Former North Carolina quarterback Mitch Trubisky will stay in the Steel City a little longer.
Trubisky and the Pittsburgh Steelers are close to an agreement on a two-year extension, as it should be done soon. General manager Omar Khan revealed the update while appearing on The Pat McAfee show on Thursday.
“We feel good about our quarterback room and that was an important piece,” Khan said per All Steelers. “Kenny Pickett’s our starter and we feel really good about Mitch Trubisky in the role he’s in, and he feels good about it.”
Shortly after the appearance, Ian Rapoport confirmed that it will be a two-year extension that will lower Trubisky’s $10.6 million cap hit this season.

After being selected No. 2 in the 2017 NFL draft by the Chicago Bears, Trubisky spent four seasons in the Windy City. The Bears did not pick up his rookie option and he signed a deal with the Buffalo Bills before joining the Pittsburgh Steelers.
Trubisky started 5 games for the Steelers a year ago, going 2-3. The franchise has turned over the starting job to Kenny Pickett who is going into his second season in the NFL. But having Trubisky on the roster as a backup is not a bad thing.
