Missouri’s new football coach made an unfortunate blunder at his introductory presser

Oops.

Missouri hired former Appalachian State football coach Eli Drinkwitz after firing Barry Odom back in November. Tuesday was Drinkwitz’s introductory press conference at Mizzou, and it was immediately clear that some old habits were tough to shake.

Mizzou plays in the SEC, which is decidedly not the Sun Belt Conference. Drinkwitz had probably been preaching all season about App State’s goal of winning the Sun Belt, so when it came time to discuss Mizzou’s mission for next season, he had just a minor slip-up.

Drinkwitz said that Missouri’s goal is to win the Sun Belt before apologizing and correcting himself. That didn’t stop Twitter from capturing the moment, though.

Conference realignment really is getting out of hand. But hey, at least he caught it.

And these kind of mishaps have been known to happen at intro pressers. Anthony Lynn, for example, called his new employer the “San Diego Chargers” at a press conference in Los Angeles.

Drinkwitz also gets to leave App State knowing that he accomplished his goal of winning the Sun Belt. So, there’s that.
