Missouri TE Albert Okwuegbunam meets with Steelers at combine

Pittsburgh is checking out one of the top tight ends at the NFL Scouting Combine.

One of the Pittsburgh Steelers biggest positions of need this offseason could be at tight end. The Steelers could save more than $5.6 million if they release starting tight end Vance McDonald. For a team pressed up against the salary cap, this would be the smart move.

If the Steelers do release McDonald, they will need to draft his replacement. Unless you think Zach Gentry and Nick Vannett are the answer. Thankfully, Pittsburgh is checking off all the boxes at the NFL Scouting Combine including a formal interview with former Missouri tight end Albert Okwuegbunam.

Okwuegbunam is a fascinating prospect and could be a steal in the middle rounds. He’s a speed tight end at 255 pounds and can be deadly down the seams. He’s not a great route runner but some of that is balanced out by his ability to outmuscle or out athlete defenders.
