On Friday, Mississippi State wide receiver Rara Thomas announced that he is entering the transfer portal. The native of Eufaula, Alabama led the Bulldogs this year with 626 receiving yards. He was also tied for third in receptions with 44 and second in receiving touchdowns with seven.
Thomas played at the same high school that 2023 Alabama commit Yhonzae Pierre currently plays for Eufaula High School. That is worth noting as Thomas looks to find a new place to call home for his last two years of eligibility. Perhaps, Pierre can give a recruiting pitch to Thomas.
Needless to say, the Tide can use a sure-handed weapon at wide receiver. Thomas could provide some athleticism and craftiness to a wide receiver room that lacked production this season. The Tide’s leading wide receiver in 2022 was sophomore Ja’Corey Brooks. Brooks hauled in 37 receptions for 623 receiving yards and seven touchdowns.
Statistically, the two are quite similar. With Brooks returning, Thomas could transfer to form a 1-2 punch at wide receiver for quarterback Jalen Milroe to throw the ball to. Nothing is set in stone as far as Thomas’ possible transfer destinations. However, it would not be surprising to see Alabama push hard to land the Alabama native.
