Minor changes in KenPom for Florida while Gators are on break

A few minor changes here and there in KenPom for Florida basketball on Wednesday.

The Gators are getting a much-deserved break this week after winning five of their six games in December with just one more to go. The Orange and Blue’s 9-3 overall record is pretty tidy, but unfortunately, it is not good enough to garner any votes in either of the major polls.

Florida’s most recent win over the Grambling State Tigers — a 96-57 dubbing inside the O’Connell Center on Friday — gave Todd Golden’s team a boost in the major objective rankings, including the Pomeroy College Basketball Ratings, which saw UF move up from No. 36 to No. 33. Five days later, the Gators remain at that same ranking.

The Pomeroy rankings use adjusted efficiency margin — the difference between adjusted offensive efficiency and adjusted defensive efficiency — to rank all teams.

Golden’s gang still has a margin of plus-16.92, which means the team is expected to score 16.92 more points than the average opponent. They remain ranked 29th in adjusted offensive efficiency (114.7) but fell to 57th in adjusted defensive efficiency (97.8)

KenPom also has Florida’s overall strength of schedule rated at plus-2.75, which moved up a spot to 92nd in the nation; its non-conference schedule rating received the same score and still has the Gators at No. 91.

Next up for Florida are the No. 239 Quinnipiac Bobcats, who travel to Gainesville on Saturday, Dec. 30, for Florida’s final non-conference game before the SEC slate. Tipoff is scheduled for 1 p.m. ET and the game can be watched on ESPNU.
