The Vikings are pretty much set at the running back position headed into 2020, but SB Nation thinks that if there was a redraft for 2017, Minnesota wouldn’t be as lucky.
The Vikings had no first-round picks in 2017, but they took Dalvin Cook in the second round of the draft. In the redraft, however, Cook went in the first round, before Minnesota had a chance to take him.
Cook went No. 19 to the Buccaneers in the redraft.
The Vikings still got value at the running back position, though. The team drafted Austin Ekeler, a Los Angeles Chargers running back, who went undrafted in the actual draft.
Though Cook is really good, Ekeler would have hypothetically added a different dimension at running back than Cook does. Ekeler is quite the receiving talent.
Here’s what SB Nation said about the Chargers running back:
“He’s had his share of success on the ground with the Los Angeles Chargers in the three years he’s been in the NFL, but he’s really made his mark as a receiving threat. This past season with the Chargers, he caught 92 passes, good for second on the team in that category, and came up just seven yards short of 1,000 receiving yards. For a running back, that’s pretty darn impressive.”
One thing about redrafts is that it gives you a good idea of how much value the teams got with the players they originally took. Cook, for instance, going in the first round of a redraft, means that the Vikings did pretty well for themselves in 2017.
