The team that picked their colors from the University of Washington has released a Huskies legend.
Minnesota’s first-ever general manager, Bert Rose, was a UW alum and chose the purple and gold colors for the Vikings based on the colors of his alma mater. That didn’t help running back Myles Gaskin make the roster more than 60 years later.
The Vikings released Gaskin as part of their cuts to trim the roster to 53 by Tuesday afternoon’s deadline. Minnesota also waived three other running backs, leaving only two on the initial roster.
Not long after, Gaskin, who spent portions of the 2023 season with the Vikings and Los Angeles Rams, was re-signed to Minnesota’s practice squad, where he will begin the 2024 season.
Gaskin was drafted in the seventh round by the Dolphins in 2019, playing four seasons in Miami before bouncing between Minnesota and Los Angeles in 2023.
He has 361 attempts for 1,355 yards and 7 touchdowns in his NFL career after setting career records on Montlake with 5,323 yards and 62 touchdowns in his four seasons with the Huskies.
A key member of the 2016 team that made a run to the College Football Playoff, Gaskin may also return to the Vikings or catch on with another team via the practice squad.
