Coaching is about teaching technique. It is also a matter of preparing athletes for what they haven’t yet seen. “If you see this, make this adjustment.” If defenses show looks players haven’t previously encountered, a good coaching staff will have players ready to respond and react appropriately.
Miller Moss told 247Sports about this chess match and the USC coaching staff’s role in making sure offensive players are ready to handle the curveball in live action this season:
“It’s interesting in our offense because teams can play something all year and then come out against us in something completely different just because of how we attack defenses,” Moss said. “So we go into every week having a plan. This is what we expect them to do, and then we’re also prepared in case they do something different.”
Preseason camp has been boot camp for developing physical stamina and toughness, but also in getting a football education and understanding how the Xs and Os come together in the film room and on game day.
USC begins its 2023 season on Saturday against San Jose State. Miller Moss should get playing time in the second half.
