Mike Tomlin’s words from Week 3 ring prophetic after slow start

Mike Tomlin’s spirit and confidence in his team never waivered.

There was a time when no Pittsburgh Steelers fan could be thought less of for thinking the season was in jeopardy. The Steelers were 0-3, without their franchise quarterback and the season was in shambles. But in his postgame press conference, after the Steelers lost to the San Francisco 49ers, head coach Mike Tomlin spoke to the media and offered some wisdom that looks almost prophetic now as the Steelers sit at 8-5 and in the playoffs.

We won’t blink. We won’t make excuses for our current state. We don’t seek sympathy for our current state. All of the things that are associated with our current state, we know and understand. We are professionals. We are capable of enduring it. We better get prepared for it in the midst of it. That is the messaging. That is the mentality.

Since this point, the Steelers are 8-2 and have overcome incredible obstacles along the way. But the focus of this team is a reflection of the unwavering spirit of its head coach.
