On Saturday night, the Pittsburgh Steelers fell 19-17 to the Cincinnati Bengals and lost any hope of winning the AFC North. It also capped the Steelers four-game losing streak to end the regular season.
The biggest factor in those late-season collapse has been the lack of offense. When the Steelers switched to Russell Wilson at quarterback, the initial burst of passing offense was a welcome sight. But things got so bad during the losing streak that offensive coordinator Arthur Smith seemed lost as to how to address it.
Through three quarters in Saturday’s game, Wilson and the Steelers only had 12 passing attempts. At halftime, Wilson had only thrown the football four times. Just four. For a whopping 25 yards.
Tomlin was asked about the lack of passing game after the game but he quickly dismissed it, only adding to the frustration of Steelers fans who saw Wilson throw for 414 yards in the first matchup between these two teams but only 148 on Saturday.
