Mike Sanford sees 2007 Stanford vibes in Buffs coaching staff

Colorado could be channeling what Stanford was building back in 2007

The Colorado Buffaloes football team is channeling the Stanford team from over a decade ago.

How exactly?

Well, new Buffs offensive coordinator Mike Sanford is settling into his role in Boulder and spoke about how this group reminds him of Stanford — a program that Sanford was a part of twice during his coaching career (h/t Neill Woelk of CUBuffs.com).

“We’re all in it together and it feels that way every day I go to work. These kinds of staffs, when given the opportunity to do things over the course of time, I’ve seen it time and again — it feels like Stanford back in 2007. We were given that opportunity to build something special and you saw it come to fruition (in 2012-13).”

Sanford has been around the college football ranks for some time and worked with both Jim Harbaugh and David Shaw when he was at Stanford.

So, for him to sense a feeling of that 2007 Stanford team certainly bodes well for the Buffs going forward. After all, Stanford was a force during those times.

Are the Buffs going to compete for a Pac-12 title in 2022? Most likely not. But, as Sanford senses, things are trending in the right direction in Boulder.
